I know, I know, I haven’t been posting as consistently as I should. Overall, I’ve been doing fairly well on the 80/10/10 plan. The main shift in my diet over the past couple of days has been incorporating more greens. Way more greens. For the first four days, I didn’t touch the stuff, trying to get the hang of this mostly fruitarian diet, but on days 5, 6, and 7, I incorporated large green salads. Buckets, really. It was nice to have something that wasn’t sweet. Such a c change for the taste buds. I devoured my first lunch salad at Quintessence on Monday (Day 5). Heaps of greens, peppers, cucumber sun-dried tomato, portobello mushrooms. The other salads I made at home, kind of copying the Buddha Bowl at Quintessence. Have been drizzling them with peanut oil. No more than a drop for nuttiness. Generally, I have steered clear of overt fats. I had my first handful of nuts this afternoon, Day 9, though I snuck a pecan at Whole Foods the other night. Hit me.
I admit that I’ve become lax about monomeals but I have remained extremely vigilant about the carb to protein to fat ratio.
Some things I probably shouldn’t be doing: grazing (I just can’t down that much fruit at one time, not yet), eating later than recommended (as a consequence of grazing), mixing fruit.
I’m just ape shit for anything coconut lately. Coconut water, you name it, but mostly the Coconut Chai from Bonobos. The richest, most amazing thing ever. Everyone who’s tried it agrees. In a way it has replaced the peanut butter-banana smoothies from Juice Generation. Have been loving dates lately and I just can’t get enough mango, whole fresh or dehydrated. For instance, yesterday (Day 8 ) I munched on dried mango throughout the day. That was pretty much it in terms of my intake besides a few pieces of whole fresh fruit and a banana-peach smoothie. It was one of my laziest days on this plan, not in terms of physical activity (morning spin/resistance training), but there was no planning of meals, no measures taken to ensure a balanced diet that day. One last thing about mangos: They’re not the best choice in winter as they are cool off the body and in winter, this may ruffle your body chemistry. I will try to replace them with something else though I have three or so ripening as I write this.
My only grievance on 80/10/10 is that sometimes, when I do attempt to eat the appropriate amounts at a meal, my stomach feels a little queasy, for lack of a better word. Not a full-on stomach ache, but there’s some discomfort (even with the monomeals, the whole point of which is to streamline digestion). Also, Dandruff? Really? I never have this problem, though it could be any number of things (i.e. the weather, my shampoo) so 80/10/10 gets the benefit of the doubt on this one. Gross, though.
This is Natasha St. Michael’s Raw Radiant Health Video Blog. 80/10/10 wasn’t for her (she explains why here), but she’s still a great resource for raw foodists of every denomination.
Here’s my kitchen looking like a juice bar lately.
